Made to Measure
Furniture Works in St Thomas Street, Scarborough, is one of the town’s premier locations for quality, pre-owned furniture and new accessories.
Yet we also have our made-to-measure service, which is one of the most popular elements of the business.
If you have a favourite piece of furniture, or need something created from scratch to a specific brief, we can help.
Furniture Works
The store, which is open Monday to Saturday, offers an eclectic range of chairs, tables, bookshelves, cabinets, dressers and more.
One of our unique selling points is the fact we accept donated items of furniture and then we upcycle it ready for sale.
Another unique aspect of our retail business is that we offer the bespoke, custom service for household items.
Manufactured items are often mass-made and if you have an older house or a quirky space, then made-to-measure is often the way to go!
It could be a handmade table, shelf, bookshelf or similar.
Tailor Made
From bespoke items to upcycling an item to your liking, we can help.
Our team, including our client learners, acquire the skills needed to transform and create.
The craftsmanship is second to none, and these skills help create a piece or pieces unique to you.
Did you know you can select from a selection of paints, wood stains and varnish finishes, add hairpin legs, bespoke shelf brackets and more?
We can craft an item to fit your very own home style.
Our bespoke design service puts an end to that search for that perfect piece of furniture which you simply can’t find.
Or if you have a piece you love, or you just can’t bear to part with, yet it needs an uplift, look no further.
Our team can give your beloved item a new lease of life through careful restorative processes.
We’ve even upcycled footstools making them the ‘style-star’ of the show!
Recycling and Low Waste
If you keep checking out our socials, you will see we’re never prouder than when we’ve used items that would normally end up in landfill.
No piece of wood is ever ‘waste’ to us!
From a bespoke-sized desk or a uniquely designed chair, we can help, including varying features and finishes.
We can also deliver for a small fee.
The Process
So how does our made to commission requests work?
First of all, get in touch!
By telephone: 01723 447887
Or by email:
We will need a brief outline of what you require.
Once we have the information we need, we will provide a quote and a timescale. Timescales vary depending on the size and scale of the project.
At the moment we have a 4-week waiting list for starting new projects.
We require a deposit and once this is paid, we will begin the project.
Once you’ve agreed the design details, we are sorry but no alterations can be made.
Don’t Take Our Word For It!
Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, style and interiors guru, is a huge fan of the upcycled home.
In a recent magazine interview, he said: “… flat-pack furniture … is basically cardboard and will eventually, very quickly become landfill. Instead, go to an antique shop or thrift store where you’ve got stuff that people have made with love. It’s a skill that will last forever and it’s already there. When you get bored of it, sell it on!”
We would have loved it if he’d mentioned Furniture Works in the same quote! (Bella magazine, dated 25th June 2024; pages 50 to 51, Issue 25)
